| Stivetts Stops Mudville Cold, 7-0 | The Mudville Nine had no answer today for Grizzly Gulch No Soxs pitcher Jack Stivetts. They failed to score a single run against him, losing 7-0. Mudville managed only 1 hit off Stivetts, who had 14 strikeouts.
The extraordinarily popular Stivetts got a standing ovation from the hometown crowd as he left the field, the applause continuing until he returned from the dugout to tip his cap to the crowd.
"No Soxs fans are the best fans, in my opinion," he said. "It's a great feeling to throw a shutout under any circumstances but to do it with the crowd behind you like that is just incredible."
Up to now Stivetts has recorded a record of 6-5. In 14 starts he has fanned 135 batters in 103 innings with a 3.93 ERA. | | |  | |
